summary

- Summary of a page:

El-Soo had been a Mission girl. Her mother had died when she was very small, and Sister Alberta had plucked El-Soo as a brand from the burning, one summer day, and carried her away to Holy Cross Mission and dedicated her to God. El-Soo was a full-blooded Indian, yet she exceeded all the half-breed and quarter-breed girls. Never had the good sisters dealt with a girl so adaptable and at the same time so spirited. El-Soo was quick, and deft, and intelligent; but above all she was fire, the living flame of life, a blaze of personality that was compounded of will, sweetness, and daring. Her father was a chief, and his blood ran in her veins. Obedience, on the part of El-Soo, was a matter of terms and arrangement. She had a passion for equity, and perhaps it was because of this that she excelled in mathematics.

-  My summary: This draw summarises the entire book, because she, El-soo is the principal character. The story talks about a Village's chief that lends a lot of money from Porportuk, which was a lender and a saver, while Klakee-nah was a normal Indian and a wine and party lover. He didn't care about the money. In Klakee's house there was always parties and guests, and Porportuk always was disagreeing with this but he kept lending money for his parties.
One day Porportuk reminded Klakee-nah that the was spending a lot of money and Klakee-nah didn't care, Porportuk became obsessed with El-soo when he saw her, and wanted her for him, but she didn't love him, she was in love with Akoom, a young indian.
Klakee-nah was sick, and soon to die, so they called Porportuk so Klakee-nah could pay his debts to him, but when Porportuk said the price of the biggest debt he owned him, Klakee-nah said he would pay all of that ok his afterlife and everyone laughed, so Porportuk became angry and said that he had to pay his debt, so Klakee-nah told him to take all of his properties, but they  had no value at all, so Porportuk said that the only way to pay that debt was with his daughter El-soo and Klakee-nah denied his proposal, because the both had the same age and Porportuk's daughters were the same age as El-soo.
When Klakee-nah died, his daughter decided to paid his debt but didn't had nothing to do it, so she decided to sell herself in a sale, and she could get the money to pay to Porportuk. The day of the same there were 2 characters that were fighting for her so she could be the wife of one of them and Porportuk won. When El-soo realize that, she felt bad and run away so Porportuk couldn't stay with her. So she kept running until she lost him from her sight, when Akoon and El-soo managed to escape, Porportuk followed them until he found some indians refugees from Mackenzie.
When they all were in Mackenzie, the indians from there called a sentence to see El-soo's future. When they all were talking, the indians agreed that El-soo belonged to Porportuk, but he saw so much sadness the he let her be happy shit Akoon, after the old people from Mackenzie said it was fair.
The end.

Other people's opinions:

° Its hard to say I liked it since its such a cruel story and, for the love of me I couldn't see "the wise message" in it. Beyond those obvious ones like: keep your promises, stay true to your words (though in some way El-Soo did keep her promise) etc. etc.
Still, maybe cause I come from different time and have different mind set I couldn't see Porportuk acts as nothing more than sheer egotistical revenge and evil doing. He is a disgrace among men. An old nag who planed and waited like a slimy devil and then couldn't understand why she didn't after all, desired him. Or perhaps he did but just didn't care. And after all he was more interested in executing his revenge than anything else. Its a world where old, bigoted men rule, yet this is a love story as well, a true love story and it moved me so I recommend it.

°In the hands of zealous mind can be badly interpretated.

°Not that I don't like unexpected endings, but I am kind of disappointed.

-My opinion:

I liked the book, the book is very easy to understand, but  i tink there are difficult works.
The book is a  strange, entretainer but not very funny, the book have bit a caracter and bit the places, that's wiht the book dind't make me imagene more things.
I liked to talk the indians and i  liked than Kaakle-Nah  pay your debts; El- Soo is a caracter happy and makes the story was good and i liked the book its romance story
